Today many people choose to purchase Craigslist cars because it is not only the easiest way to purchase a used vehicle but is also the best way to get a low price on a used automobile. Now more than ever, people are taking advantage of the Internet in order to find incredible deals on used cars in their local area. From Miami Florida to Spokane Washington, great deals can be found on a daily basis. While some great car deals are openly advertised, others you will have to work for in order to get a low price. Negotiating is an art that when mastered can save you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. While you cannot become an expert negotiator overnight, there are a few tactics that you can use in order to talk your way into a lower price. Sometimes negotiating is as easy as asking for a lower price well other times you will have to put a bit of effort into it.

Ask for a lower price

Picking up a cheap used car on Craigslist cars may be as easy as asking for a lower price. While this may seem simple and obvious, it’s something that many people do not do. When I was selling used cars I would estimate that greater than 50% of car buyers did not even request a price reduction. Many times, I would have gladly reduced the price just to earn their business. Remember, you will never know unless you ask. While requesting a lower price, don’t try to lowball the seller. If the car is posted at $3599, ask the seller if they will take $3100 if you were to make a purchase today. Using the word today is a great tactic when negotiating price on a vehicle.

Come armed with facts

There is no better power when it comes to negotiating than knowing the facts. Prior to negotiation you should do your homework and determine how much the car is worth by checking out similar vehicles in the area. It is also a good idea to print off the book value along with other classified ads that are similar.  Show the seller this information and explain why you would like to pay a certain price for the vehicle. Any seller with a level head will negotiate with you if they believe that you will go to the competition to buy a vehicle.

Walk away

Perhaps one of the most effective tools that you can use when it comes to negotiation is to walk away. Simply walking away is not going to cut it. You will have to show the seller that you are genuinely interested but refuse to budge unless you get your way. Making clear to the seller what you want and when you do not get what you want, turn around and walk way this is usually effective and will cause the seller to retreat and accept your offer. Remember, this negotiation tactic is a last-ditch effort and should only be used when you are prepared to walk and not come back.
